Book a Session with Dr. Taraban

Do you have an issue that you would like to discuss with Orion? Consider scheduling an individual consultation to receive clear, practical advice to help you get what you want.

Before booking a consultation, there are a few things you should know. It is important to understand that a consultation is not the same thing as therapy. Therapy typically involves treatment for a diagnosable mental illness, includes ongoing support, and is often a regular commitment over time. On the other hand, a consultation is focused on a very specific problem, includes actionable solutions, and is generally time-limited. Think of it like getting advice on a particular problem.

A 60-minute consultation costs $800 (USD). Meetings are scheduled in the Pacific Time Zone (-7/8 GMT), so sessions may be early in the morning or late at night depending on where you are in the world. Consultations take place over a secure and encrypted teleconferencing (audio/visual) platform. Payment must be received in advance, and insurance is not accepted. See the FAQ below for more information.

If you’d like to move forward, please fill out the inquiry form using the button below. Thank you for your support and consideration. Take care.

Unfortunately, Dr. Taraban is not currently accepting new therapy patients. Please refer to your local mental health providers if this is your goal.

A 60-minute individual consultation costs $800. Payment is required in advance to confirm the appointment.

Payment can be made via Venmo (for domestic clients) or Wise (for international clients). Credit cards are not accepted. Please do not make payments via alternate methods without first discussing with Orion. If applicable, you are responsible for any transaction fees in addition to the consultation fee.

Consultations are conducted via Doxy – a secure, encrypted teleconference (audio/visual) platform. You can access the platform via a link provided by Orion once payment has been received. There is no need to download anything or to make an account.

At the beginning of the session, you will be asked to tell Orion whatever information you think he needs to know to make sense of your situation. Your goals will then be confirmed, and Orion will become increasingly more participatory and directive as the session progresses.

While no formal preparation is required, it is a good idea to spend some time considering what you would like to discuss in the meeting, so that the session is maximally beneficial to you.

Yes – consultations are confidential. Orion does not record the sessions nor keep a written record of the conversation. Keep in mind, however, that “confidential” is not the same as “privileged.” Since a consultation does not constitute a therapeutic relationship, sessions are not legally privileged – so disclosure may be required under certain conditions (like a subpoena).

Orion may use the consultation as inspiration for a future podcast episode. However, in the event that he does so, your name will not be used and your identifying features will be changed to protect your privacy.

Due to the confidential nature of the the work, Orion does not collect testimonials from past consultation clients. Please refer to his podcast, PsycHacks, for a general understanding of his beliefs and methods.

To protect his time, Dr. Taraban institutes a cancellation policy with respect to consultations. He will keep 50% of the consultation fee for the first last-minute (within 48 hours) cancellation or no show, and 100% of the consultation fee for the second. He will only attempt to reschedule a session once.

The first step to scheduling an appointment is filling out an inquiry form. You can access the form using the button in the box above. You should receive an email with Orion’s next available appointment shortly. Keep in mind that he is generally booked at least a month in advance.
