This axe sharpening stone has two grinding faces; one course side (180 grit) for damage repair and a smooth side (600 grit) for sharpening. Compared to natural sandstone, this ceramic stone has a finer grain for more precise sharpening. And because you’ll use the finer side more, the 600 grit side is thicker than the 180 grit side. Usually used with water as a lubricant, but can be used dry.

The coarse, 180-grit side is used for repairing damage from hard wear, whereas the finer, 600-grit side is used for fine grinding. The grain structure of the stone makes it both tough and long-lasting. As opposed to a natural stone, a ceramic sharpening stone can be made to have a more precise grain size.
