Patrón Spirits Company is based in Las Vegas and was founded in 1989 by John Paul DeJoria , a former homeless man who made his fortune as the co-founder of John Paul Mitchell Systems, a hair care producing company. In January 2018, Bacardi acquired the Tequila manufacturer. Tequila Patrón is made from Weber blue agaves , which have the best sugar content. The leaves are cut to recover only the heart of the plant called "piña". After being chopped by hand, the piñas are baked in a brick oven to ensure even cooking. They are then crushed by a two-tonne Tahona wheel made of volcanic rock, and by a grinding wheel. The resulting mixture ferments for three days, is distilled, and then in some cases, aged in artisanal barrels.
